sweater accomplished!

I made a sweater...not just a simple cardigan type thing, a real sweater, with pieces and seams!!! Seriously!  It only took me 4 months...haha! Well, it's not like I worked on it every day, or every week for that matter.  I did also happen to notice the warm weather showing up more frequently, but none of that matters, I've worn it at least a little bit everyday for the last few days.  I'm proud of myself, and seriously love the sweater.  Not sure if I love it because I love it, or love it because of the effort and care I put in it.  Doesn't matter really, I love it.

The yarn is SHELTER by BrooklynTweed and the pattern is Shadow, from Wool People (by BrooklynTweed).

did I mention that I love it?

29 days of February- Week 1

I thought it would be fun to do a picture a day challenge for the month of February. I have no grand illusions about being able to post a photo a day, so I'm going to do it "digest" style at the end of each week. I'm also not going for crazy amazing photo's, just those that capture a moment or image I like, so many of them may end up being iPhone shots.

So much of my life is focused on the monkeys, but I'm hoping to get a little more of me into these shots.

1st- 3.8 miles

2nd- grocery store

3rd- stock
4th- cheese!
5th- a house divided

little man's hat mash up

My littlest monkey needed a new hat...well, needed it sort of a stretch, but we lost his mama made hat on a fun family trip to Williamsburg.  I think it's sad to lose a handmade hat, but it is bound to happen.   At least it was on an awesome little outing and not just a trip to the grocery store.   I felt it wasn't right to have 2 little monkeys, and only one with a handmade hat.

I decided to mash up two of my favorite hat patterns, for a variety of reasons, including not having enough solid color yarn to make the Fortnight (by Jared Flood) as written with cables on the top.  Cables and color way do not generally go together in my book.  So, I used the bottom garter portion of the Fortnight hat, and then I flipped it inside out, and used the Regina (by Carina Spencer) hat as a guide to finish the top.  It came out just how I envisioned, and think it makes a cute little boy hat.

I've also knit both hats as the patterns are written (see below), and they are both awesome hats, with extremely well written patterns.  If you haven't tried these patterns, check them out!

 Fortnight

52 weeks of Pinterest

do you pinterest?  I know everyone is getting in on it now...Isn't it fun?

Well, there are some 52 weeks of Pinterest challenges out there on the interwebs.  I have decided to do one too.  I've been using it since last year, and usually just peruse everyone else's pins, not always "repining" myself.  I've done a few things here and there that I found on Pinterest.  Why not make it a bit more of a challenge and do one "project" a week.  I think it will be fun!

If you also use pinterest, feel free to join me!  I'm going to post what I've done each week, hopefully with an "in progress" or "action" shot of whatever it is.

This week I took on the monkey's "art cart."  We seem to have too much art "stuff" which easily turns into junk...so, I tackled it the other day.

Here is a before picture:  (we keep most of our art things here, in this cart, in the kitchen, for easy access)

scary messy Art Cart
As you can see, it can get out of hand pretty quickly.

So, I decluttered, recycled a lot of unfinished pictures that never truly became works of art, and thinned out the supplies.  Sometimes too much of something isn't a good thing, and we've made it much more manageable now.

tame, manageable Art Cart
My fun idea from Pinterest; the muffin cup storage containers.  I love that these are easy to take with you where ever your art needs to be done (usually on the floor).  The little magnetic piece on the bottom really does hold the cups in place.  Best of all, it's a plastic cup, so if it winds up smashed, cracked or otherwise maimed, it's easily replaceable.

Muffin Tin Art Caddy

So, there's this weeks fun project! Here is the direct link to the Muffin tin craft caddy, in case you'd like to make one yourself.

Feel free to comment and post (all you legions of readers out there!) what you're up to too, and let me know if you'd like an invite to Pinterest, because you have no idea what I'm jabbering on about!

Welcome 2012!

Well, it may be a bit after the first, but who's counting?  I for one can not be picky about these things!

I have made a few resolutions this year.  I'm going to work on somethings for myself, like getting a few runs in a week, so eventually I may become a "runner."  I'm also hoping to expand my crafting into sewing.  That's probably enough of a challenge to just stop there.  We're also trying to reduce the clutter and commotion in our day to day lives.  It'll be nice to have a place to check in and keep myself on track.

I obviously took a blogging hiatus, ha! taking a break form something before you even get going on it!  That's a bit silly, but that's me.  I'm going to try and check in more often this year.

Any special resolutions or plans for the coming year for you all out there?

Oh and I'm also going to keep my camera at the ready, in hopes that I can catch more moments like this:
